Quote of the Fortnight: “If Not Winter — Fragments of Sappho”

This week’s Quote of the Fortnight features a poem from Anne Carson’s translation of Sappho, one of the greatest poets of all time. Not much survives of Sappho’s work, but her fragments have been expertly translated by Carson in If Not, Winter. This quote is short, but fascinating given the fact that Sappho has been remembered:

Poem 147.

someone will remember us

                                        I say

                                         even in another time
