Quote of the Fortnight: The Woman in the Dunes

91EQlmt-FZL

This week’s Quote of the Fortnight is from Kobo Abe’s existential novel, The Woman in the Dunes. A modern day retelling of the Myth of Sisyphus, The Woman of the Dunes is the story of an entomologist on vacation who is tricked into living in a sand pit with no escape. His only company is the “woman in the dunes.”  The quote reflects the repetition and the universal search for meaning in life:

“One could not do without repetition in life, like the beating of the heart, but it was also true that the beating of the heart was not all there was to life.”
